Pedestrian Accidents: Cyclist Loses Life In Traffic Incident

Pedestrian-Accident (1).jpg

Pedestrians and cyclists choose their mode of transportation for different reasons, whether they walk or bike for exercise, leisure, or as a means of transportation. They probably don’t think too much about the potential danger they can face when they are in close proximity to traffic. They probably should, though, since a person walking or riding a bike is at more risk of injury when involved in a collision with a motor vehicle. Cyclist and pedestrian accidents also often result in more serious injury when they do occur. A recent fatal accident here in Louisiana involving a cyclist shows just how pronounced the danger can be.

The collision happened on a recent early evening on a local road. Authorities say that the cyclist, a 54-year-old man, was heading south and was struck by an SUV going in the same direction. The cyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he did not survive his injuries.

Police report that their investigation is ongoing, but they have stated that they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash as far as the SUV driver was concerned. They haven’t stated whether they believe there were any other contributing factors such as speeding or distracted driving. Authorities haven’t yet announced any intention to file criminal charges in connection with the crash.

Whatever the outcome of this particular investigation may be, the family of the cyclist who died could decide to file a wrongful death claim against any parties deemed responsible. Doing so could result in an award of monetary damages that may help the family cover any unexpected costs related to the crash, such as funeral expenses or medical bills. Those here in Louisiana who have been hurt in cyclist or pedestrian accidents can consult an attorney to determine their available options for justice.
